A 16th century Renaissance manor house in the Morbihan region…
***
HISTORY: the current building dates back to the 16th century, which can be easily seen inside – various shouldered archways, typical of the early Renaissance era, are present in the upper floors, along with a Gothic door in the attic. The main core of the house dates to this era, but the south facade is 17th century with some rather impressive lucarns. The main corps-de-logis of the house is built of courses of granite and schist, a rock found abundantly in the area, which gives it a unique look. To the west is an 18th century extension and to the east a 19th century extension. The stable buildings are 16th century, with Gothic doorways and ogee motifs. Other buildings are definitely quite a lot later.
The building was added to the national listing records in 1986. At some point, someone must have started renovation works on the building. But as is frequent, the money ran out and the building lies empty and falling further into decline. The current residents are a swarm of flies and Asian Hornets (trust me… do not mess with these guys).

THE EXPLORE: having been in the area seeing a friend of mine, I consulted my urbex map and spotted this place nearby. It turns out I actually knew it from childhood as there is a lovely cycleway near it which my parents and I sometimes cycled. To see this place derelict was a bit sad, as every time I had gone past it I’d snuck into the courtyard to have a look at the building. I parked up and made my way over. I spent maybe an hour photographing the building. I kept having to dodge Asian hornets that decided they liked the look of me and kept buzzing around me.
I wasn’t totally at ease though. A bit like the Manoir de la Curry, my mind kept telling me someone was about to rock up and start having an almighty great go at me. I don’t know why I kept thinking that but I did. Luckily nobody did turn up but even so. My mind was not very quiet about the possibility. I suppose that comes from being assaulted twice by security in France. Enjoy the photos!
