A 15th century Renaissance manor house in the Côtes d’Armor region…

HISTORY: This manoir is rather obscure, and I can find almost no history about it. The following information consists of my own observations of the building’s architecture and should not be taken as fact. From what I can see, the building dates back to at least the 15th century, looking at the main doorway which is built in the Flamboyant Gothic style prevalent at the time. The building looks as though it was refitted and renovated in the 18th century which saw various windows widened and made taller, allowing more light into the rooms. At the same time wooden carved panelling was installed into various principal rooms and a curving wooden staircase was inserted into the stair tower, thus giving the manoir a blend of Gothic and Classical architecture.

Its last use was, like the Manoir de Kermathéman-Braz, a farm. The various outbuildings have horse stables, and a corrugated sheet Dutch barn was built to hold machinery. At some point, maybe in the 80s or 90s, the manoir was abandoned. Since then there has been no maintenance whatsoever and the building is slipping rapidly into more and more dereliction. The walls of the building are showing some very large cracks in many places, and I don’t think it will stand for much longer.

THE EXPLORE: The third explore of my French trip! I arrived at the manoir just after midday. It was rather overgrown which made for some rather nice photo opportunities. The inside of the manor house is showing its dereliction. A lot of the floors were very unstable and the walls have enormous cracks in them. And also, the staircase was VERY precarious. Nevertheless, it was a very nice little explore, even if I was worried about the building coming down with me inside it! Enjoy the photos.
