The Springs Hotel

July 2018 | England | Redeveloped

Half timbered exteriors, oak panelled interiors and beautiful Perpendicular Gothic fireplaces. This place was almost untouched at the time of my visit. The building is a mid 19th century Tudor Revival house that was converted into a hotel by Ian Gillan of the band Deep Purple. It was later sold to a golf club who developed a golf course on the estate. It closed as a hotel in 2015 due to apparent “serious structural issues”. After about six years of dereliction and more and more frequent vandalism and metal theft that left the building’s integrity severely compromised, most of the hotel was demolished, except for the Victorian section, and redeveloped into a new hotel.

At the time of my visit there was no security at all (surprisngly!!) so I could literally just walk into the main building through the front door. It was quite a nice little explore for me, as I do enjoy Tudor style architecture a lot. Again my angles and framing were squiffy but certainly a lot better than they were in 2015 when I first started exploring properly.
